At least 4 people have died due to Corona in the last one week in Karachi, Pakistan. Most of those who died were elderly and these people were already struggling with many diseases.
All these deaths occurred at Aga Khan University Hospital. Here in the last few days, the number of Corona patients is increasing continuously.
Experts are describing this new wave of Corona as abnormal, as corona is a respiratory disease, usually spreading more in winter, but this time in summer, when the day temperature is more than 40 ° C, cases are still increasing. Korona’s JN1 variant is being considered as the reason for these new cases.
8 to 10 Corona Positive coming every day
Dr. Javed Khan, respiratory diseases of Karachi, said that from last week, positive cases of 8 to 10 Kovid-19 are being seen every day. At the same time, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pichuho said that at present, he cannot give anything on the current situation.
An official of Pakistan’s National Institute of Health (NIH) told the media- we are getting very few samples, but 10 to 20% of them are covid positive. We need more data to understand the severity of the problem.

Curona cases growing rapidly in Asia
For some time, there has been a rapid increase in cases of Corona across Asia. In Singapore, 14,200 new patients have been found till 13 May and 33,030 in Thailand till 17 May. 1042 new cases were registered in Hong Kong till May 10.
Cases have also increased in India since May 12. New cases have been reported in 11 states. Most of the cases are from Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. According to the data given by the Union Health Ministry on May 19, there are 257 active cases in the country. The news of the death of two patients has also come in Mumbai. However, experts are not considering this variant of Corona as much dangerous.
Corona’s new JN1 variant increases concern
This time, Omikron’s new variants JN1 and its sub-variants LF7 and NB1.8 are being held responsible for the infection. Officials say that no such evidence has been found so far that these new variants are going to spread more dangerous or fast than before.
However, he believes that this wave can show its impact on people with weak immunity.

JN1 variants weakens immunity
JN1 is a strain of BA2.86 of Omikron. Which was first seen in August 2023. In December 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a ‘variant of interest’.
It has about 30 mutations, which weaken immunity. According to the University of Johns Hopkins in the US, JN1 spreads more easily than earlier variants, but it is not very serious. It remains the most common variant in many parts of the world.
Symptoms of Covid-19 JN1 can live anywhere from a few days to weeks. If your symptoms persist for a long time, you may have long-covid. This is a situation in which some symptoms of Covid-19 persist even after recovering.
