He said new flight routes including Chennai to Penang, Bengaluru to Langkawi and Bengaluru to Kuala Lumpur played an important role in this growth. Apart from this, the number of Indian tourists has also increased due to increase in visa exemption for Indian citizens. Kumaravasagan said in a statement that Malaysia’s extension of the 30-day visa waiver for Indian nationals till December 2026 marked an ‘important milestone’ in enhancing connectivity between the two countries. “This is a golden opportunity for people from Tamil Nadu and across India to see Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, pristine beaches and vibrant cities without the hassle of applying for a visa,” he said.

Tourism Malaysia director (Chennai) Hishammuddin Mustafa said the visa exemption not only makes travel easier but also reaffirms Malaysia’s commitment to being a preferred destination for Indian tourists. “With strategic partnerships and strong promotional campaigns, we aim to showcase Malaysia’s unique hospitality, diverse attractions and hidden gems,” Mustapha said. On this occasion, top Malaysian officials also unveiled the logo of ‘Visit Malaysia 2026’.
