Marriage registration new rules: Yogi Adityanath government has made a big change in Uttar Pradesh regarding registration of marriage. From now on, at the time of registration of marriage, at least one member of the bride and groom’s family will be required to be present. This decision has been taken after the recent directions of the Allahabad High Court.
The State Inspector General of Stamps has issued a circular regarding this new rule and it has been implemented with immediate effect. The government says that its aim is to curb fake weddings and bring transparency in the process.
Who can be present?
According to the new rule, at the time of marriage registration, parents, siblings, grandparents, grandparents or any one of the adult child must be present. If the family is not involved in the marriage, then the marriages, the pundits, the cleric or the pastor will have to come and verify the registration.
Wedding video and affidavit also important
Now it will be necessary to give full video recording for marriage registration, which will have to be deposited in the pen drive. Also, it will be mandatory to give an affidavit (Affidavit), in which information and consent of marriage has to be given.
Where can you get registration done?
According to the sub-registrar of Ghaziabad, now the registration of marriage will be possible only where the groom or bride’s family has a permanent address. This means that no one can go anywhere and get a marriage register.
Screws on fake institutions
This step is also considered necessary because many cases were reported recently, where some institutions like Arya Samaj Mandir Trust got married in fake documents. Last year, five FIRs were lodged in Ghaziabad, in which complaints were made in such cases.
Court’s big decision
The main reason for this change was the case of Shani Dev vs. Uttar Pradesh Government. In this case, in about 150 cases, they ran away from home and got married in suspicious circumstances. There was neither family information in such registration cases of marriage, nor any legal investigation was done. The court had expressed concern that these weddings could be misused for smuggling or exploitation. After this, the government took this tough decision.
Special seal will be installed
If the marriage takes place without the consent of the family, then after examining the registrar, a special seal will be imposed on the marriage certificate, which will show that this marriage has been registered after special investigation under the new rules.
Will it change?
The government believes that this step will not only make the wedding process more transparent and safe, but will also stop matters of fake weddings and force. The notice of this new system has been publicly affixed to the sub-registrar office of Ghaziabad, and a separate register has also been created for such cases. Now it is clear that marriage in Uttar Pradesh is not only a personal matter of two people, but now the role of both the government and the family has become necessary in it.
