In today’s digital time, most people do not walk with their paper documents. Now the need to keep physical documents in digital era is also ending. The government is also promoting digitalization. In this episode, apps like Digilocker and MPARIVAHAN are helping common people a lot. Take photos of Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN card, driving license and keep it in the dizolocker in the phone itself. Due to this, there is neither the hassle of carrying physical documents nor the fear of losing.
Will the police consider digital license?
The answer is – yes, it is completely valid.
In 2018, an advisory was issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), which clearly stated that the driving license, RC and other documents shown in the Digilocker or MParivahan app would be legally considered valid under the RC and other documents Motal Vehicle Act 1988. That is, if the police stops you, then you can show the documents shown in your mobile. The police will have to accept them.
This rule is applied under the Information Technology Act 2000, in which digital documents are considered equal to paper documents.
No need to keep a copy of insurance with you
Now the information about the insurance of the vehicle is also updated in the Vahan portal. Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) puts new insurance policy and renewal data on this portal every day, which makes this information appear in apps like MPARIVAHAN and ECHALLAN. If the active insurance of the vehicle is seen in the app, then there is no need to keep the print copy of insurance with you.
How to add driving license to Digilocker?
Go to Digilocker’s website (www.digilocker.gov.in) or download the app.
Register with a mobile number and create a username-password.
Link your Aadhaar card.
Go to the dashboard and click on Issued Documents.
Choose Driving License from the list.
The app will verify it from the concerned authority, and then it will be saved to your account.
In this way, do not forget to take documents with them, nor argue with the police. Just take out the mobile and show your valid digital documents!
