The Indian team has to play its first series at home in the year 2025, a 5-match T20 series against England from January 22, after which a three-match ODI series will also be played between the two teams. After the end of T20 World Cup 2024, the entire coaching staff of Team India was changed in which there were 2 assistant coaches but no one was in the role of batting coach. At the same time, during the Test tour of Australia, the Indian team’s batsmen had a very poor performance. Now in such a situation, BCCI has taken a big decision before the Champions Trophy 2025 and has also included the batting coach in the coaching staff.
Sitanshu Kotak will take over the responsibility of batting coach
Former Saurashtra team captain Sitanshu Kotak will be seen in the role of batting coach in the coaching staff of the Indian team. According to the news of ESPN Cricinfo, Sitanshu Kotak will take over this responsibility from the upcoming 5-match T20 series against England starting from January 22. Sitanshu Kotak took retirement from first class cricket in the year 2013 in which his career was 20 years long. After this, from the year 2019, Sitanshu Kotak was handling the responsibility of batting coach in National Cricket Academy i.e. NCA. Apart from this, he has also been seen handling the role of assistant coach on the tours of India-A team along with the current NCA Chief VVS Laxman in the last few years.
BCCI took this decision after review meeting
According to ESPN Cricinfo, after Team India’s 3-1 defeat in the Test series on Australia tour, the decision was taken to include the batting coach in the coaching staff in the BCCI review meeting held in Mumbai. Before the Test series against Australia, Team India had to face a clean sweep in the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home, in which also a very poor performance of the batsmen was seen. If we talk about Sitanshu Kotak, he has played 130 first class matches, in which he has seen 15 centuries with his bat. Apart from this, he has scored 8061 runs at an average of more than 41. In List A also, Sitanshu has scored 3083 runs at an average of more than 42.
