Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, said that the statements of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are inciting the anger of the people in Bangladesh. He made this statement during a conversation at Chautham House in London on Wednesday.
Yunus said that PM Narendra Modi ignored the demand of Bangladesh that appealed to stop the online speeches of Sheikh Hasina, who was living in India.
Yunus said- I told PM Modi that if you want to keep Hasina in India, then I cannot force you. But decide not to give statements that provoke the people of Bangladesh. “
When Yunus was asked whether India did what you wanted, he said- no.
Yunus said- wants good relations with India
Younus PM Modi told him that this is social media, it cannot be controlled. Yunus said that this is a dangerous situation.
Yunus accused the Indian media of spreading fake news. He said- We want good relations with India, but Bangladesh gets nervous due to fake news of Indian press related to policy makers and activity in cyber space.
Yunus said that Bangladesh has written a letter to the Government of India demanding extradition of Hasina. He said- International Crime Tribunal has started a case against Hasina. Notices have been sent against him for several crimes. We are following the legal process.

Anger among people against Yunus is increasing
Mohammad Yunus has given this statement on a occasion when the voices of protest against him in the country are constantly increasing. There is resentment between opposition parties, government employees, teachers and army. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed indefinite ban on all rallies, protests and public meetings at the center of the capital.

Bangladesh will have general elections next year
Bangladesh will hold general elections in April 2026. It was announced by Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus in the interim government on 6 June.

The next general election will be held in the first fortnight of April 2026. For this, the Election Commission will later present a roadmap in detail.
Yunus said that by next year all the reforms required for the election will be completed. Mohammad Yunus was made the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government after Sheikh Hasina’s coup in August last year.
Sheikh Hasina resigned as PM on 5 August 2024
Sheikh Hasina left the country on 5 August last year and came to India. Actually, students were protesting against him. On June 5 in Bangladesh, the High Court implemented a 30% quota system in the job, protesting the students of universities in Dhaka against this reservation. This reservation was being given to the families of freedom fighters.
However, this reservation was later abolished by the Hasina government. But after this, students started protesting demanding their resignation.
