Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has put up the surprising information on Monday. CM Majhi has said that more than 36,000 women and 8,400 children have gone missing in Odisha in the last 4 years. How many women and children missing?

On Monday, CM Mohan Majhi has revealed the shocking number of missing women and children, answering a question by MLA Chakraki Kanhar in Odisha Assembly on Monday. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said that a total of 36,420 women, including 8,403 children, have gone missing during 2020 to 2024. CM has said that many successes have also been involved in efforts to deal with this crisis.

453 middlemen in custody

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said that 421 women and girls have been victims of smuggling crossing the state boundaries with the help of dishonest middlemen. In response, law enforcement agencies have detained 453 middlemen involved in these illegal activities. According to the Chief Minister’s reply, 1,417 women and 1,857 children have been rescued as part of efforts to deal with this crisis.

What steps were taken to stop smuggling?

CM Majhi has told in the House that the police is taking action to find out the smuggled women by registering a case on the basis of complaints. CM has also told that 36 integrated human trafficking units have been created to prevent smuggling of women and children. IAHTU has been made a connectivity point to deal with such cases in Bolangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda. CM has said that during 2024, 6,437 cases of kidnapping of women were registered in Odisha and 413 people have been arrested in connection with these cases. (Report: Shubham Kumar)
