Saurabh Sharma
Three investigating agencies are searching for Constable Saurabh Sharma, from whose house mountains of currency notes and bricks of gold and silver were found. Till now his whereabouts have not been found. Let us tell you that this case is related to the seizure of Rs 11 crore in cash and 52 kg of gold from an abandoned vehicle in a village in Bhopal district on December 19. Who is Saurabh Sharma, the accused in this case and how did he allegedly acquire such huge wealth? Everyone is anxious to know this.
Know who is Saurabh Sharma
Saurabh Sharma alias Chinu, resident of Gwalior, is a former civil services candidate. Apparently he was part of the same group preparing for the civil services examinations on which the much-acclaimed film 12th Fail is based. He has even appeared for interview in the State Civil Services Examination. After the demise of Saurabh’s father, who was a government employee, Sharma obtained appointment on compassionate grounds as a constable in the transport department.
According to sources, Saurabh Sharma had quickly learned the ropes of working in a department notorious for bribery and his appointment on compassionate grounds was mired in controversy which eventually led to Sharma’s resignation. He then started a construction business, which was reportedly just a vehicle for other activities.
Cash and gold were found in the car
On December 19, the Lokayukta’s SPE raided two premises allegedly linked to Sharma in Bhopal and seized gold and silver besides cash worth Rs 2.1 crore. The actual recovery took place later that night when the Income Tax Department spotted a vehicle with ‘regional transport officer’ (RTO) plates and a siren mounted on it parked in a field in Mendori village and searched it. So Rs 11 crore cash and 52 kg gold were found in the bag kept in that car.
Look out notice issued against Saurabh Sharma
Saurabh Sharma is missing after this incident and the anticipatory bail application given by him has also been rejected in the court. On December 27, the ED had searched premises allegedly linked to Sharma and his relatives and business associates. The Income Tax Department has issued a notice to him while the Lokayukta’s SPE has asked the state Criminal Investigation Department to issue a lookout notice for Sharma. The investigating officers are not denying Sharma being abroad.
According to sources, apart from cash and gold and silver, a list of officials and politicians who were allegedly bribed by Sharma was also recovered from the house. During the search, expensive gifts including designer watches and bags were found, which shows how Sharma might have been benefiting those influential people.
