Vegetable prices fall drastically

According to the bulk price index data, the food inflation declined from 3.38 percent of February to 1.57 percent in March. The major decline in the prices of vegetables was the main reason. However, the inflation of manufactured products increased to 3.07 percent in March, compared to 2.86 percent in February. The increase in fuel and electricity was also seen and it was 0.20 percent in March.

Wpi food index

The WPI Food Index, including food items and manufactured food products, decreased slightly from 189.0 to 188.8 in March. The WPI -based food inflation rate declined from 5.94 percent to 4.66 percent in March. WPI fuel was 0.20 percent in March, compared to -0.71 percent in February. The fuel and power group index declined by 0.91 percent in March, mainly due to a decline of 2.31 percent in electricity prices and 0.70 percent in mineral oil prices. Coal prices remained unchanged.
