Singer Sonu Nigam is once again in the headlines and that too with a controversy. During a music concert held at a college in Bangalore, the audience was repeatedly demanding him to sing in Kannada, to which the Singer had reacted sharply and the whole controversy started about it. Singer linked the demand for singing Kannada to the Pahalgam terror attack, after which many Kannada organizations expressed their displeasure and the matter reached the police station. The singer released the video while clarifying, but the dispute is still going on. Some Kannad communities have filed a case against Sonu Nigam under criminal sections, which the Singer has challenged in the court, but the High Court has postponed the hearing of the case till 15 May.
Complaint lodged against Sonu Nigam at Avalli police station
A complaint has been lodged against Sonu Nigam at Avalllai police station for hurting the sentiments of the Kannada people. Avallly police, investigating the case, issued notice to them to appear for questioning. In the FIR lodged at Avallly Police Station, the corporation has been accused of humiliating the Kannada community during its performance at East Point College in the city on 25-26 April.
Complaint was filed on 3 May
On Tuesday, the case was heard by a holiday bench headed by Justice Shivshankar Amarnavar and the court fixed May 15 for the next hearing. The FIR was recorded on May 3 in response to the complaint made by the pro -Kannada organization Karnataka Rakshan Vedike and one of its members Dharma Raj Ananthaya.
Controversy took place in Bangalore concert
The trial claimed that the corporation compared the request to sing the Kannada song to the audience in the event with a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which the Kannada people were described as intolerant or violent. Ananthaiha alleged in his case that such statements created a lot of tension in the society. Sonu Nigam has been accused of saying criminal intimidation, deliberately insulting criminal intimidation, intentionally insulting peace and public disturbance under sections 351, 352 and 353 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). The singer’s petition has demanded a complaint of May 2 and the cancellation of both the FIR of May 3.
What is the dispute?
The dispute began when Sonu Nigam allegedly refused to perform in Kannada during a music event, resulting in herself to be heard. In a subsequent video message released on social media, the composer clarified his position and defended himself, claiming that a group of youth in the program angrily threatened him to sing in Kannada while he was singing Hindi songs. Sonu Nigam eventually issued a public statement to announce that he has deep love to Karnataka and Kannada people and has been misrepresented by their statements.
