SA20 2025: Before the Champions Trophy, South Africa’s fast bowler has created history. South Africa announced its team for the Champions Trophy on 13 January. Just a day later, the South African fast bowler did something that had never been seen in the SA20 league before today. The sixth match of the SA20 League being played in South Africa was played between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals on 13 January. Batting first in this match, MI Cape Town scored 172 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. For MI, Reeza Hendricks scored a brilliant 59 runs in 37 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six. Whereas, Van der Dussen played an inning of 43 runs in 33 balls. Dayan Galim took maximum 3 wickets in his bag for Paarl Royals.

MI gave target of 173 runs

While chasing MI Cape Town’s target of 172 runs, Paarl Royals’ opening pair made a stellar start. 38 runs were put on the scoreboard in the first 3 overs. What happened after this became history. Kagiso Rabada came to start his bowling in the fourth over and on the very first ball of his first over, he showed the way to the pavilion to Paarl Royals opener Joe Root. Root returned to the pavilion after scoring 26 runs in 14 balls. After Root returned to the pavilion, Sam Hain came to the crease as the new batsman but could not score a single run on the next 5 balls. In this way this over of Rabada proved to be wicket maiden. After this Rashid Khan came to bowl his first over in the 5th over but gave away 15 runs.

Rabada created a new history

After Rashid Khan’s expensive over, the ball was once again in Rabada’s hands. This time too Rabada repeated the feat of his first over and started his second over with a wicket. This time Rabada hunted opener Lhuan-Dre Pretorius. Pretorius was out after scoring 26 runs in 12 balls. After taking the wicket on the first ball, Rabada did not give a single run on the next 5 balls and once again created a new history by bowling the second consecutive maiden over. Rabada bowled 2 consecutive maiden overs in the powerplay and thus became the first bowler in the world to bowl 2 consecutive maiden overs in the powerplay in the history of the SA20 league. Before this, no bowler had done this feat in this league.

Rabada enters special club

Not only this, Rabada has now taken a huge leap in the list of bowlers who have bowled the most number of maiden overs in T20 cricket. With the help of 2 consecutive maiden overs, he left 16 bowlers behind and now he has joined the club of bowlers who have bowled 10 or more maiden overs in T20 cricket. Rabada left behind legendary bowlers like R Ashwin (9 maidens) and Yuzvendra Chahal (9 maidens). Thanks to this brilliant bowling by Rabada, MI restricted Paarl Royals to the score of 139/9 runs in 20 overs. In this way MI won the match by 33 runs. Rabada and Rashid took 2 wickets each while Jordan Linde took 3 wickets.
