How does this scam work?

In this scam, criminals first deposit a small amount in the victim’s bank account through UPI. After this they request the victim to return a huge amount. When victims receive a notification that money has been added to their account, they often open the UPI app and enter the PIN to check their balance. During this time the fraudsters have already sent a fake transaction request. As soon as the victim enters their PIN, the request is accepted. And money is withdrawn from their account.

Tamil Nadu police warning

Tamil Nadu Police has advised people to be cautious about this scam. He said that complaints of such fraud are being continuously registered on the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal. Police have said that if money is received from an unknown person, then take immediate precautions.

How to avoid this scam?

Do not check balance immediately: If any unknown money comes to your account, wait for 15-30 minutes. During this time, any fraudulent requests will time out and scammers will not get a chance to use your PIN.

Enter wrong PIN: If it is necessary to check the balance immediately, do not enter the wrong PIN intentionally. By doing this any pending request will be rejected and your money will be safe.
