ITR Filing 2025: Tax experts and chartered accountants have expressed concern over the frequent technical disturbances on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. He says that due to technical delay and strict deadline, the Income Tax Return (ITR) filing process of FY 2024-25 may be affected.
This week, many professionals wrote on the social media platform x that Annual Information Statements (AIS) and Tax Information Summer (TIS) were not available for download on Tuesday. Both these documents are very important for accurate return filing. Till Wednesday, the portal was also running with ‘turtle’s move’, which increased resentment among taxpayers and professionals.
Doubly time to prepare returns
Mumbai’s chartered accountant Chirag Chauhan posted on X, “Taxparens and professionals are currently not able to access AIS and TIS on IT portal… @Inometaxindia should give information about this error on Twitter and tell how long it will be fixed.”
He further said that the new ITR forms are seeking much more details than before taxpayers, which is taking double time to prepare the return. For example, to claim house rent allowance (HRA), now the landlord’s PAN, property address and other details will have to be filled directly in ITR. Similarly, it has now become necessary to give policy number for deduction on insurance, which was not mandatory earlier.
Demand to increase all types of deadline
On Wednesday, CA Himank Singla appealed to the government that not only ITR filing deadline, but also tax audit, company law audit/ROC filing and GST annual return deadline should be increased.
He insisted, “ITR deadline should be increased! Tax audit deadline should be increased! The company should increase the law audit/Roc deadline! GST annual filing deadline should be increased! All these should be announced in advance so that the last -time chaos can be avoided.”
Deadline to file ITR
The last date for filling ITR for non-audit case is September 15, that is, taxpayers now have only one month left. But professionals say that this time is quite low, as many ITR utilities have been released recently. For example, the utility of ITR-5 was released on August 9, while the online utility of ITR-6 and ITR-7 is still pending.
The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has formally sought to increase the deadline. He says that due to late issuance of utility, the real time of filing returns has very little left. GCCI has appealed to CBDT to increase the deadline of both ITR and tax audit.
However, the government has already increased the ITR deadline for non-audit individuals from 31 July to 15 September. But experts say that due to late release of utility, the benefit of this relief is almost over.
What are the mess in ITR portal?
Taxpayers are constantly facing technical problems on the site of the Income Tax Department. Some of these special problems are given below.
- System error when uploading ITR and tax audit form.
- Form 26AS, AIS and TIS data disturbances, sometimes different figures for the same PAN.
- Performance problems, such as slow response in login, page timeout and session failure in peak hours.
- The problem of utility compatibility, new utility needs frequent fix before it stabilizes.
