ITR Filing 2025: The new financial year has started and now the countdown to do the most important work for taxpayers has started. Taxpayers will have to file income tax return (ITR) by 31 July. ITR filing for assessment year 2025–26 may start soon. If you want to file returns on time and without mistake, then it is very important to keep some important documents prepared from now on. This is the entire checklist of those documents that you should have before filing ITR.
1. PAN and Aadhaar Card
PAN is necessary to file income tax returns. Also, it is also mandatory to have a link to PAN and Aadhaar. Aadhaar leads to verification of your identity.
2. Form 16 (for Salaried people)
It gives a document company that contains your salary and cut tax information. It consists of two parts – Part A (Detail of TDS) and Part B (Salary Breakup). The company has to give this form 16 every year till 15 June.
3. Form 26AS and AIS (Annual Information Statement)
Form 26AS is like your taxbook which contains information about TDS, advance tax and large transactions. AIS has details of all sources of your income – such as salary, interest, dividend, shares etc. Make sure to check your TDS and income.
4. Bank Account Details
Keep information about all your active bank account. Especially it is necessary to fill the IFSC code and account number correctly so that there is no problem in the tax refund.
5. Certificates of interest
Take a statement of interest on savings account, FD, RD from the bank or post office. This income is counted in Income from Other sources.
6. Investment proofs (for tax deductions)
Keep necessary documents to get exemption under Section 80C, 80D etc. like – Life Insurance Premium receipts, PPF, ELSS, Children’s Fee, Home Loan Documents and Health Insurance receipts.
7. Home Loan and Property Documents
Take a certificate from the bank for interest on home loan and if you are claiming HRA, then keep the rent receipt or agreement.
8. Capital Gain Statements
If you have sold shares, mutual funds or property, then gather the receipts and statements of the cell-discomfort attached to it.
9. Foreign Income and Property (if applied)
If you have earned abroad or have a property, then it is mandatory to give information about it.
10. Income related to freelancer or business
Keep profits-loss statements, GST returns, and professional invoice.

When will ITR filing start?
New ITR forms of CBDT are released in April and the portal may open this month. But most salary people file only after June, as Form 16 get them till June 15. So if you also want to fill the return quickly and correctly, then do not forget to keep this document prepared in advance.
