The first batch of 160 Indian citizens extracted from Israel under Operation Sindhu left Jordan in Amman on Monday.

Under the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, 604 Indian citizens have been evacuated from Israel via Jordan and Egypt under Operation Sindhu. The first batch of 160 Indian citizens will reach New Delhi on 24 June. The Indian embassy in Israel gave this information on Monday.

However, the flight from Israel to Jordan, then from Amman, was diverted to Kuwait, as the air space was closed due to the Iranian attacks on US military bases on Monday night.

Earlier, under Operation Sindhu, the Government of India on Monday took 290 Indians and a Sri Lankan citizen safely to Delhi from Iran’s Marshad. Thus the total number of Indians rescued so far has increased to 2003.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margerita said that the Government of India has set three extra evacuation flights from Iran in the next two to three days as part of Operation Indus.

There are over 9 million Indians in 6 Gulf countries. The maximum number of 35.5 lakh UAE, 26 lakh Saudi Arabia, 11 lakh Kuwait, 7.45 lakh Qatar, 7.79 lakh Oman and 3.23 lakh are in Bahrain.
