Abu Shabab was in captivity of Hamas, escaped from jail
According to reports, Abu Shabab was at one time involved in minor crimes. A few years ago, Hamas’s police put him in jail on charges of theft and smuggling of drugs. At the end of 2023, when the war between Israel and Hamas erupted, he escaped from jail under the guise of Israeli airstrikes.
After escaping from jail, he created his own armed organization popular forces militia. Popular Forces Militia is active in Dakshin Gaza. It has more than 100 members. These fighters wear palestinian flags and patch uniforms of the ‘counter-terrism unit’.

Media reports claimed that the Popular Forces are working in the Israeli army controlled areas. Israel has also given them the weapons seized from Hamas, such as Clashinakov (AK 47) rifles.
According to the report, the entire plan was planned by Israel’s internal security agency Shin Bet, which was also approved by Prime Minister Netanyahu and his security officials.
The Israeli government argues that this strategy was adopted so that Hamas could be weakened and the lives of Israeli soldiers can be saved. However, the scheme is being criticized a lot.
Former Defense Minister Avigdor Laborman even said that the popular forces are associated with terrorist organizations like Islamic State. However, no strong evidence has been revealed.
Accused of robbing people’s food
At this time, when the situation in Gaza is very bad and people are facing starvation. In such a situation, Abu Shabab is accused of robbing the trucks that come to help people. These groups are looting flour, medicines and other essential things on the strength of weapons.
A senior UN official said that the loot is being done under Israeli surveillance. Gaza’s truck driver and his unions are also scared of Abu Shabab. Recently, when some truck drivers firing, the union stopped work.
However, Abu Shabab has dismissed these allegations. They say that they have stopped some trucks, but they are doing this for the needy. They feed their family and neighbors, not to sell these things. On the contrary, he accused Hamas that the real looting is doing the same. Hamas has denied the allegation.
Hamas called Abu Shabab a traitor
Abu Shabab claims that his organization protects the local people in Rafah and protects them from Hamas’s terror and the loot of human assistance. Hamas has openly described Abu Shabab as an associate and traitor of Israel.
In 2024, Hamas made several attacks against his organization. In this, 20 people, including Abu Shabab’s brother, died. Hamas then claimed that he had abolished Abu Shabab. But in 2025, Abu Shabab came out again.
Yasar recently released a video message in which he claimed that his group had controlled the Eastern Rafa. He appealed to the displaced citizens to return to temporary camps formed under the supervision of the Israeli army. He said that here he will find food, living space and security.
The group of Abu Shabab is trying to show himself as a responsible force in Gaza on social media. He showed through videos and photos that they are protecting trucks, helping people to eat and medicines, and appeal to people to return their homes because the area is now safe.
According to the New York Times, in the current condition of Gaza, Israel is not able to decide who should be ruled there in future. Netanyahu neither wants the administration of the Israeli army nor wants to support the Palestinian Authority, as it would mean that a Palestinian state will have to be recognized which many ministers of his government do not accept.
