IRCTC: IRCTC has given great news for railway passengers. Now you will get travel insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh for just 45 paise. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made major changes in its new insurance policy. This insurance plan is optional. But once selected, it will be applicable to all passengers traveling under the same PNR. This scheme is only for Indian citizens and its benefit can be availed only through e-ticket booking.
Who can take advantage of this scheme?
This insurance is available only to Indian citizens. Foreign nationals and passengers booking tickets through agents or other travel agencies cannot avail this benefit. Children below 5 years of age, whose tickets are booked without a seat, will not be covered under this insurance. However, for children in the age group of 5-11 years, this insurance will be given on booking the ticket with or without seat.
Insurance benefits and sum assured – Under this insurance policy, four major benefits are given to the passengers.
Transfer of dead body: Cover up to ₹10,000 for shifting of dead body following a train accident or other incidents.
Cost of injury treatment: Benefit up to ₹2 lakh in case of hospitalization.
Permanent Partial Disability: In this situation, cover up to 75% of the sum insured i.e. ₹ 7,50,000.
Permanent total disability/death: Cover up to 100% of sum assured i.e. up to ₹10 lakh in case of permanent total disability or death due to accident.
How to get insurance cover?
If insurance is selected during ticket booking, its information will be given to the passengers through SMS and email. Passengers can check the policy number and other details from the ticket booking history. Nominee information will have to be filled on the website of the insurance company after booking the ticket. If nominee details are not given, payment will be made to the legal heirs.
Policy eligibility
This insurance scheme is applicable only for confirmed and RAC ticket holders. This policy provides financial protection to passengers in case of accidents or unexpected events during travel. This initiative of IRCTC is an effort to provide more safety to the passengers at less cost.
