A confidential report by the United Nations’ nuclear monitoring institution, International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA states that Iran has increased the stock of pure uranium by 60%.
This uranium is considered very close to weapon making. The agency has appealed to Iran to increase cooperation and change its policy.
This report comes at a time when efforts are on to resume the nuclear deal between the US and Iran. Negotiations are happening, but no concrete result has been found yet.
At the same time, Israel said that the report of IAEA shows that Iran has made full preparations to make nuclear weapons. He claimed that Iran’s program is not peaceful at all and the international community should take immediate action.
50% increase between February and May
According to IAEA report, by May 17, Iran had deposited 408.6 kg of purity with 60% purity. This is 50% higher than in February. The uranium of this level is just one step away from 90% pure weapon-grade uranium.
IAEA said that if about 42 kg of uranium with 60% is cleaned further, it can cause an atomic bomb.
The total rich uranium reserves of Iran are now 9247.6 kg.
Although Iran says that its nuclear program is only for peace, IAEA chief Rafael Gosi has warned that Iran has many nuclear bomb -making uraniums.
Iran denied the report as wrong
Iran’s Foreign Ministry and the Nuclear Energy Organization described the report as wrong and biased. He said that this report is based on incredible sources and has been prepared under political pressure.
Iran also said that its nuclear program is peaceful under Islamic principles and international law. He referred to the fatwa of his supreme leader Khamenei in which nuclear weapons have been described against Islam.
Iran also alleged that IAEA remained silent when the US was out of the nuclear deal in 2018.
America made a new proposal to Iran
Oman’s Foreign Minister Tehran arrived and he submitted a new US proposal to the Iranian Foreign Minister. The proposal is associated with limiting nuclear programs and relief in US restrictions.
Recently there was a fifth round of talks between the US and Iran in Rome, but no concrete results were found.
What was found in IAEA investigation?
IAEA has sent another confidential report to the member countries stating that Iran is not cooperating in the investigation, especially in places where parts of uranium have been found without knowing.
IAEA suspects that Iran had a secret military nuclear program in the early 2000s. During investigation, this was revealed about three old sites (Turkuzabad, Vermin and Marivan). The fourth site Lavisan-Shiyan was demolished by Iran after 2003 and did not let IAEA go there.
