West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday that the state has received investment proposals of more than Rs 4.40 lakh crore during the two -day trade summit. He said that the state remains a very attractive place for investors. In the concluding session of the Bengal Global Trade Summit (BGBS), Banerjee said that 212 mOU and intent letters were signed in various sectors, which highlight the state’s capacity as investment site.
Thousands of jobs will be born
He said, “During the two -day program, we have received investment proposals of Rs 4,40,595 lakh crore. These will create thousands of employment opportunities in West Bengal. ”Banerjee said that BGBS 2025 received ‘tremendous response’ is proof of Bengal’s ‘growing economic capacity’. Referring to the development efforts of his government since 2011, the Chief Minister said that these initiatives have helped 1.72 crore people in the state to rise above the poverty line. He said, “Our constant attention came on infrastructure, industry and social welfare.”
Reliance committed investment
In the BGBS 2023 version, Banerjee said that West Bengal has received investment proposals of more than Rs 3.76 lakh crore. The main attraction of this year’s summit was Reliance Industries’ investment commitment. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has promised to invest Rs 50,000 crore in the state by the end of the decade. Other important announcements were also made at the summit, including the unveiling of a global excellence for AI by ITC in the New Town area of Kolkata. JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal has announced an investment of Rs 16,000 crore to develop a 1,600 MW power project in Salboni.
