Indian Railways: Indian Railways has launched a special round trip scheme for passengers in view of the increasing crowd during festivals. Its purpose is to make it easy to make ticket booking easy on special festivals like Diwali and Chhath. Under this scheme, passengers will now be able to get a discount of 20% in base fare on returns tickets. This will enable better use of trains in both directions.
What is the Railway Round Trip Scheme?
The scheme has been implemented from 14 August 2025. It has been started especially to reduce crowds in festivals like Diwali and Chhath Puja. Passengers can book online and return tickets within the scheduled dates. Rebate will be available only on the base rent of the return ticket.
This means that if you have to go to Lucknow from Delhi to celebrate the festival with the family and then come back, then this scheme will be able to take advantage of your scheme. For this, while booking tickets from Delhi to Lucknow, you will also have to book a ticket from Lucknow to Delhi. And discounts will be available on the rent of this return ticket.
How to take advantage of the new railway scheme
To take advantage of the railway round trip scheme, it is mandatory to book tickets for the first onward. Only then can the return ticket be booked on the fixed dates through the ticket connecting journey feature. The benefit of this scheme will be available only on booking tickets for certain dates.
How to book onward tickets?
The Confirmation page or Bookd Ticket History will show the option of “Book Return Ticket”.
How to book a return ticket?
Keep these things in mind
The 20% discount will only apply to the base fare of the return ticket. Suppose the total fare of a train ticket is ₹ 1,000. It has base fare ₹ 700, Reservation Charge ₹ 40, Superfast Charge ₹ 75 and GST/other tax ₹ 185. So the discount will be given only at the base fare i.e. ₹ 700. The rest of ₹ 300 (Reservation, Superfast, Tax) you will have to pay the same way.
The Advanced Reservation Period will not be applicable on the return ticket. Both tickets should be from the same station pairing. Also, the scheme is applicable only to select trains and special trains. Therefore, while booking tickets, you should check whether it is getting the benefit or not.
