India Is preparing to put counter -tariffs on some products coming from America. In response to the US tariff on Indian steel and aluminum exports, India also wants to put a counter tariff on some US products. India has informed the World Trade Organization (WTO) about this proposal. India has proposed to impose counter-tariffs under WTO on 29 American products including apple, almonds, pears, anti-freeing preparation, boric acid, iron and steel.

India told WTO that these security measures would affect the imports of $ 7.6 billion in the US. India told WTO, ‘Security measures will affect the imports of $ 7.6 billion in the US. New tariffs installed from 10 February
On 8 March 2018, the US implemented security measures on several steel and aluminum products. Under this, from 23 March 2018, such products were charged 25% and 10% respectively. Subsequently, on 10 February 2025, the US revised security measures on imports of already effective steel and aluminum products.
America did not give information to WTO
India said that the US failed to inform the security committee of the WTO on deciding to implement security measures. Now being an affected member of important export interest, India has requested a consultation with Washington. In its reply, the US stated that tariffs “are required to adjust the imports of steel and aluminum articles, which endanger the US national security.” The US also gave the same response on such request made by the European Union.
