IND vs ENG: Kolkata’s historic Eden Garden Stadium will witness a spectacular comeback today. The 5-match T20I series between India and England will start from January 22, in which all eyes will be on the fast bowler who is making a comeback after a long time. This bowler is Mohammed Shami who has returned to the team after being fit and will participate in the T20I match for Team India after more than 2 years. He last played the T20 World Cup semi-final match against England in November 2022. He was away from international cricket for about 14 months.
Mohammed Shami ready for comeback
Shami was out of the team due to an ankle injury since the final defeat against Australia on 19 November 2023. After this, there was swelling in his left knee. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is not certain to play in the Champions Trophy due to a back injury, which will put a lot of burden on Shami. After recovering from injury, Shami made a comeback for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy last year and led him to the first win of the season by taking 7 wickets. After this, he took 11 wickets in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and five wickets in Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Expecting better performance in T20I
The kind of success that Mohammed Shami has got in Test and ODI, he has not been able to achieve in T20I cricket yet. Shami has played only 23 matches in his T20 career since his debut in 2014. He has only 24 wickets to his name in T20I cricket and now he would like to improve his performance. In the T20I series against England, the responsibility of Team India’s fast bowling will be on Shami’s shoulders. Now it remains to be seen how effective he can prove to be for Team India with his bowling when he returns.
