IND vs AUS: In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy being played between India and Australia, the host team is leading 2-1 after 4 Test matches. The Boxing Day Test match played in Melbourne brought a great opportunity for Australia to take the lead in the series. Australia registered a spectacular victory by 184 runs in the fourth test match of the 5-match test series. The defeat in this match has dealt a big blow to Team India’s hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). Now Team India will have to win the Sydney Test at any cost to keep itself in the race for the WTC final.

Leon did wonders with ball and bat

India had a big target of 340 runs to win in the Melbourne Test. Chasing this target, India lost the last seven wickets for 34 runs in 20.4 overs and the entire team collapsed for 155 runs in the second innings. Australian captain and ‘Player of the Match’ Pat Cummins took three wickets for 28 runs in 18 overs while Scott Boland took three wickets for 39 runs in 16 overs. Nathan Lyon hunted the Indian batsmen. He made important contributions with both ball and bat in the Boxing Day Test. Nathan played a brilliant inning of 41 runs in the second innings for Australia and took a total of 5 wickets in the match. He took his second victim in the form of Mohammad Siraj and with this Team India’s innings ended.

R Ashwin’s record destroyed

Nathan Lyon created a new record with the dismissal of Siraj. He broke the huge record of R Ashwin, who retired from international cricket after the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Lyon took his 538th victim in Test cricket in the form of Siraj. With this he became the 7th bowler to take the most wickets in the history of Test cricket. He achieved this big feat by defeating R Ashwin. Now Nathan’s target is Glenn McGah’s record of 563 wickets.
