There is no official statement from BJP Congress on this yet, but according to sources, due to the mistake of the printing press owner, such posters were put up in an area of the city, but as soon as the mistake was realized, these posters were immediately removed. Let us tell you that for the next two days, the border town of Belagavi in Karnataka will refresh the memories of the only Congress session held here under the chairmanship of Mahatma Gandhi. The historic session of the Congress was held on December 26 and 27, 1924 and is remembered as a significant moment in the Indian freedom struggle. During the session, Gandhiji appealed for spinning yarn on the charkha and called for non-cooperation, which became a major movement in pre-independence India. The main organizer of that historic convention was Gangadhar Rao Deshpande, who was known as the Khadi Bhagiratha of Karnataka. He was the pioneer of the freedom struggle in Belagavi. Belagavi was known as Belgaum at that time. Deshpande played an important role in hosting the Belgaum Congress session, which was presided over by Gandhi.
It is said that more than 70,000 people gathered at this convention, an unprecedented number for pre-independence India. This convention was organized in Tilakwadi, Belagavi. Due to this convention, the region was named Vijayanagara after the Vijayanagara Empire. A well was also dug there to supply water to the attendees, which was named Pampa Sarovar, a historical site of Hampi, the capital of the Vijayanagara dynasty. Today a park named ‘Vijaynagar Veer Soudha Udyan’ has been built at the same place in Tilakwadi. Since then this place has been converted into Gandhi Memorial.
Motilal Nehru, his son Jawaharlal Nehru (who later became the first Prime Minister of India), Subhash Chandra Bose, Sarojini Naidu, Annie Besant, Shaukat Ali, Saifuddin Kitchlew and others were also present at the Congress session. The ruling Congress in Karnataka has planned a grand celebration on the occasion. Under the plan, the entire city will be decorated with lights like Mysuru Dasara, which marks the centenary of the Congress session. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will participate in this program.
