Bengaluru: Prahlad Rama Rao, former scientist at the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), said on Sunday that if there are 10 Abdul Kalam in India, then there can be a really change in the way of research and development. Rama Rao, a resident of Bengaluru, was part of India’s ‘Missile Man’ and the missile construction team formed by former President APJ Abdul Kalam. He and his team worked on the surface -to -air indigenous missile system for nearly 15 years from 1983. Now it is a moment of pride for him as it faced Pakistani missiles and drone attacks especially on May 8 and 9.

Can’t work together as a team

Rama Rao said, “The biggest difficulty for India is that we are personally good, but cannot work together as a team. Kalam was very good in solving this problem. He taught me how to coordinate the energy of individuals to achieve an objective. So I think if we have 10 Kalam, then India can lead in the true sense. ”

He said he was only 34 years old when he was made the director of the surface -to -air missile project. The project was originally called ‘SAM X’ and later its name was changed to ‘Akash’ system. Explain that the Akash indigenous missile system is a medium-range surface-to-air-to-air missile system developed by India. It was designed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and was created by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The system is capable of destroying air threats such as fighter aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, and ballistic missiles.

The main features of the sky:

  1. Range and height: The Akash missile can distinguish the target of 25–45 km and a height of 18–20 km. Its advanced versions, such as sky-NG, have a range of 70–80 km.
  2. Target: It can neutralize air threats such as fighter aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, and ballistic missiles.
  3. Radar and Guidance: It has ‘Rajendra’ 3D Passive Electronically PESA radar, which can guide 64 goals and guide 12 missiles simultaneously. The missile has a smart command guidance system.
  4. Mobility: System is mobile, which can be deployed on truck, tank, or T-72/BMP chassis, and can be transported by road, rail, or air route.
  5. Indigenous technology: 96% indigenous, it was developed by DRDO, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
