Share Market Today: Amidst sharp fluctuations, Sensex and Nifty closed with a slight fall today on January 8. Sensex fell by more than 700 points in early trade. However, it later made a comeback and closed with a slight fall of 50 points at the end of trading. Especially the index got support from the rise in IT shares. However, sharp selling was seen in the broader market. Both BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices closed down by more than 1 per cent. The biggest decline was seen in consumer durables, industrials, banking and capital goods stocks. On the other hand, IT and Oil and Gas stocks remained bullish.

At the end of trading, BSE Sensex fell 50.62 points or 0.065 per cent to close at 78,148.49. NSE’s 50-share index Nifty slipped 18.95 points or 0.08 per cent and closed at 23,688.95.

Investors lost ₹2.34 lakh crore

The total market capitalization of companies listed on BSE came down to Rs 439.41 lakh crore today on January 8, which was Rs 441.75 lakh crore on its previous trading day i.e. Tuesday, January 7. In this way, the market cap of companies listed in BSE has decreased by about Rs 2.34 lakh crore today. Or in other words, the wealth of investors has declined by about Rs 2.34 lakh.

These 5 Sensex stocks had the highest rise

Today, 15 out of 30 shares of BSE Sensex closed in the green i.e. with gains. In this, shares of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had the highest rise of 1.97 percent. After this, shares of Reliance Industries (RIL), ITC, Asian Paint and HCL Tech closed with a gain of 0.83 percent to 1.92 percent.

These 5 Sensex stocks fell the most

Whereas the remaining 15 Sensex stocks closed with losses today. In this too, Adani Ports shares were the top loser with a fall of 1.89 percent. Whereas shares of Ultratech Cement, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Sun Pharma and HDFC Bank saw a decline of 1.16 percent to 1.75 percent.

There was a decline in 2,575 shares

The number of shares closed with losses on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today. A total of 4,066 shares were traded on the exchange today. Of these, 1,395 shares closed with gains. A decline was seen in 2,575 shares. While 96 shares closed flat without any fluctuations. Apart from this, 148 shares touched their new 52-week high during trading today. Whereas 101 shares touched their new 52-week low.
