Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will introduce the new Income Tax Bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday, August 9. This will not be a new bill, but the earlier bill will be introduced with the recommendations of the Selection Committee of the Lok Sabha. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said this on Saturday, August 9. The government on Friday withdrawn the Income Tax Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha. Rijiju’s statement has come in view of some apprehensions.
He said that it is believed that a completely new bill will be brought by ignoring the earlier bill. But these apprehensions are baseless. All the changes will be included in the new bill to be introduced, which have been suggested by the Select Committee and which the government has approved.
The bill was introduced earlier on 13 February
Income tax bill, 2025 was introduced by the government on 13 February 2025 to replace the Income Tax Act, 1961. After this, it was sent to the Selection Committee of the Lok Sabha for study. The report of this committee was presented in the House on 21 July 2025. Rijiju said that there should be no apprehension about the fact that the new income tax bill presented on Monday will be different. This will be the same bill, which will include all the amendments approved by the government. All the hard work done in the last 6 months will not go in vain.
Government has approved 285 suggestions on the bill
Rijiju said that this is a general parliamentary process and it is adopted when there is a lot of amendments in the bill already introduced in the Lok Sabha. The selection committee headed by BJP member Baijayant Panda and 31 -member Selection Committee made 285 suggestions on the Income Tax Bill, which was approved by the government. Rijiju said that a new bill was needed because it would be a tired process to present each amendment separately and get the approval of the House.
Rijiju says, “It is a common tradition that when a selection committee presents its report and the suggested and accepted amendments are many, the earlier bills are withdrawn. After this a new bill is introduced with all the sanctioned amendments, so that it is easy to consider and pass the bill for Parliament.”
