New Delhi: The Home Ministry has approved two new battalions with over 2,000 personnel each for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards critical establishments such as airports and nuclear power plants. With the formation of the new battalion, the strength of the force’s personnel will reach approximately 2 lakh. This decision will not only enhance the capability of CISF but will also further strengthen national security.

More than 2,000 youth will get employment

“The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the significant expansion of the CISF by approving the creation of two new battalions,” a CISF spokesperson said on Tuesday. “This decision, coupled with the recently sanctioned women battalion, will enhance the capability of the force, strengthen national security and create new employment opportunities for over 2,000 persons,” he said. The spokesperson said that the approval was received on Monday.

Last year, women battalion was approved

A women’s battalion was sanctioned for the force late last year. The force currently has 12 reserve battalions, each with 1,025 personnel. The new battalions will also be important in meeting the “growing” demands of the CISF by creating a pool of trained personnel to meet immediate requirements related to internal security. Apart from guarding the country’s 68 civilian airports, the CISF, formed in 1969, provides anti-terrorist security to several establishments in the nuclear and aerospace sector and historical monuments such as the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort.
