High level Indian contingent can go to America next week for trade deal, differences will be overcome on some issues

India And a high-level official party of India can visit Washington next week with the aim of creating a consensus on some pending issues before starting a formal talks on the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between the US. A government official gave this information on Thursday. The developments have come to light soon after the recent visit to India by an important US trading party, indicating increasing activism between the two countries over the trade agreement. It is expected that in this upcoming visit, the Indian side will be headed by Additional Secretary of Commerce Department, Rajesh Aggarwal, who is the main negotiator of India in this matter. This is the first high-level talks between the two countries.

Differences will be removed in the meeting

The yatra is a sequel to the level of talks of senior officials last month, in which Brandon Lynch, a assistant US trade representative for South and Central Asia, visited India from 25 to 29 March and discussed important business topics with Indian officials. The official clarified, “The Indian party may travel to Washington by the middle of next week. However, this will not be the first round of formal dialogue between the two countries. Their main objective is to reduce the differences on some specific issues before starting a formal talks for the agreement.”

90 days ban on tariff

Both countries are keen to pursue trade talks using a 90 -day temporary restriction on tariffs declared by US President Donald Trump on 9 April. Earlier an official formula had expressed the possibility that if beneficial conditions are formed for both sides, an interim trade agreement between India and the US could be finalized during this 90-day fee postponement period. This upcoming meeting is considered important towards strengthening trade relations between the two countries and taking concrete steps for a broad bilateral trade agreement.
