Shiney Ahuja’s career stumbled badly when her 19 -year -old maid accused her of rape in 2009. As soon as this matter came to light, there was a stir in the film industry and media. Shiney described himself as innocent, but a case was registered against him and had to spend some time in Arthur Road Jail. In 2011, a Mumbai court convicted him and sentenced him to 7 years. Although the victim later changed her statement and retracted from the allegations, the court felt that she was pressurized. Shiney then appealed to the High Court and got interim bail, but by then his film career was almost over. His image in Bollywood was tarnished and the director -producer started to work with him.

A famous courtroom drama film named ‘Section 375’ was described as inspired by the case of Shiney Ahuja. The film showed how a director is accused of rape by a female designer, but when the case goes to the bottom of the case, it is revealed that the matter was not forced but of consent. In the film, Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha played the role of lawyers, while Meera Chopra and Rahul Bhatt played the role of accused director and victim.
