GSTR-3B Deadline: Big relief to taxpayers, government extends GSTR-3B return filing deadline – government extends gstr 3b return filing deadline to October 25 2025 ahead of Diwali festival for taxpayers relief

GSTR-3B Deadline: The government has extended the last date for filing monthly GSTR-3B tax form on October 19 by five days to October 25. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said in the notification that GSTR-3B filers for September and July-September quarter can now pay their taxes till October 25. This extension was already expected, because Diwali festival is on 20th October.

There was a demand to extend the deadline

A group of chartered accountants had requested the central government to extend the deadline for GSTR-3B returns to September 2025. His argument was that the last date was October 20, the day of Diwali, which would make it difficult for professionals and companies to file. Filing of GSTR-3B involves tasks like data entry, review of ITC and arranging funds for tax payment, which reduces time.

What is GSTR-3B?

GSTR-3B is a monthly and quarterly return. It is filed by registered taxpayers every month between 20th, 22nd and 24th according to different categories. In this, taxpayers give information about their GST liability and fulfill it.

Penalty for missing deadline

Late fees are charged if GSTR-3B return is not filed on time. As a general rule, there is a penalty of ₹50 per day (₹25 each for CGST and SGST). If there is no tax liability then ₹20 per day will be charged. This fee is applicable from the day following the last date of filing, up to a maximum of ₹5,000 per taxpayer. Apart from this, 18% annual interest is also charged on the tax amount.
