The Ministry of Civil Aviation came into action after a complaint of very expensive fare for flights going to Prayagraj. The ministry has clearly told the airlines to maintain proper ticket prices. There was a continuous complaint that airlines companies are charging excessive air fare from passengers for flights in Prayagraj. According to PTI news, after this initiative of the government, the country’s largest airline IndiGo has reduced the fares for the city by 30-50 percent. On Wednesday, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu met the airline representatives in connection with the flights of Prayagraj along with Secretary V. Vulanam, Director General of DGCA (Director General of Civil Aviation) and senior officials in relation to Prayagraj’s flights.

According to the news, the incident happened on a day when Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that the air fare for Prayagraj flights is high and he urged the aviation regulator DGCA to take steps to reduce prices. In view of the demand for the Kumbh Mela and the journey to be held in view of it, there has been a boom in air fares for Prayagraj flights and the Ministry of Civil Aviation asked the airlines to rationalize ticket prices.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a post on X that they reviewed the adequacy of air connectivity for Prayagraj from across the country while maintaining appropriate fare during the Mahakumbh festival. According to the ministry, regular coordination meetings have been held to provide a comfortable and comfortable travel experience for millions of devotees participating in the world’s largest religious conference from January 13 to February 26, 2025. In a post on X, Naidu also said that he met airline representatives to review the adequacy of air connectivity for Prayagraj country, ensuring proper fare during Mahakumbh.

Sources said that IndiGo has reduced air fares by 30–50 percent for flights to Prayagraj. No comments were made by the airline. IndiGo fare for Delhi-Prayagraj flights from February to 16 February is now slightly higher than Rs 13,500. According to its website, the ticket price for 31 January is more than Rs 21,200 and the lowest price for February 12 is Rs 9,000. Currently, Indigo, the country’s largest airline, operates services from Lucknow, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Ahmedabad to Prayagraj.

Prayagraj Airport is directly connected to 17 cities

Earlier in the day, Joshi said that it has become difficult for people to plan a journey to participate in Mahakumbh due to very high air fares. No immediate comments were made by Air India, Akasa Air and SpiceJet on the fare of Prayagraj’s flight. Currently, 132 flights are operating from various Indian cities with about 80,000 monthly seats for Prayagraj. Prayagraj is directly connected to 17 cities compared to eight in December 2024.
