New And the Ministry of Renewable Energy said on Monday that the government has launched five pilot projects to use hydrogen fuel based vehicles for testing under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. 37 hydrogen-fuel vehicles including buses and trucks will be used for testing under pilot projects across the country. The ministry said in a statement that these vehicles will run on 10 different routes across the country. According to the statement, the above projects have been given to major companies like Tata Motors Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd., NTPC, ANERT, Ashok Leyland, HPCL, BPCL and IOCL.
National green hydrogen mission
As part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the government has launched five pilot projects to use hydrogen in buses and trucks. Earlier, the Ministry had issued guidelines to implement pilot projects in the transport sector under this mission. The ministry said that accordingly proposals were invited for various types of hydrogen-based vehicles, routes and hydrogen fuel stations. After a detailed investigation, a total of 37 vehicles (buses and trucks) and five pilot projects associated with nine hydrogen fuel station have been approved.
Rs 208 crore assistance from Crand
The total financial assistance from the Center for the selected projects provided will be around Rs 208 crore. These pilot projects are expected to be operational in the next 18 to 24 months. This will clear the way to promote such technologies in the country on a large scale. One of the objectives of the mission is to promote green hydrogen use in buses and trucks as fuel in a phased manner on a pilot basis.
