DPDP Rules, 2025
The government had released the draft DPDP Rules, 2025 on January 3. Public comments can be made on these till February 18, 2024. According to the draft rules, digital platforms can process the data of a child only after obtaining consent from his verified guardian or parents. This can be verified using voluntarily provided details of identity and age or through a virtual token issued by a legal entity or an entity designated by the Central/State Governments.
There will be no threat to the privacy of the individual
Vaishnav said the token system has been successful in various matters such as verification in case of Aadhaar-based transactions. He said, “The tokens issued for verification will be temporary and limited to one transaction only. After that it will be automatically destroyed.” The Union Minister said that if needed, sector-specific guidelines can be issued after consultation with regional experts and stakeholders. He said that there will be no threat to the privacy of any person due to verification through virtual token. Vaishnav said that the DPDP Act will have no impact on whistleblowers as they are protected under this law. He said that no limit has been set for filing complaints under the DPDP Act.
