Gmail fruad: Recently some fraudsters dodged Google’s security system and sent an email to Gmail users that seem very real to see. It has been told in this email that the government has sent a legal notice (Subpoena) to Google which has sought all the information of your Google account like email, photo, maps data etc. In this email, you are sent to a fake website by creating an atmosphere of fear which resembles the real website of Google.
This fake website is actually made on Google’s site sites.google.com, which any common computer can make a person. In email, you are asked to go to that website and either see data or register protest, but actually the same trap is.
The most dangerous thing about this email is that it seems to be sent from real addresses like No-Reply@google.com. Passes all Google’s security checks such as SPF, DKIM and Dmarc. The reason behind this is Dkim Replay Attack, where the fraudster does not make any change in a real Google email and sends it to another user. Gmail’s security technology checks the truth of email but does not recognize the intention of that email.
How to avoid this kind of fraud?
Cyber security expert says that before clicking on any link, take the mouse on it and see its full URL. If an email tries to scare you or demands immediate action, then be cautious. Never share your private information with sites.google.com or any unknown website. Do start two-factor authentication (2FA) in your Gmail and bank account. If there is doubt on any email, use the Report Phishing button in Gmail. Google has also confirmed this fraud and said that it is working to increase security on it.
