Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni strongly condemned the incident, calling it a brutal attack on innocents. The incident is reminiscent of a major terror incident that took place in Berlin on 19 December 2016, when an Islamic extremist drove a truck into a crowd at a Christmas market. 13 people had died and dozens were injured in the incident.
