Geert Wilders, the leader of PVV, the largest party in the Netherlands, announced to get out of the coalition government on Tuesday.

PVV, the right -wing party in the Netherlands, has announced to get out of the alliance. Party Chief Wilders said that all the ministers of his party are resigning from the government. This government was only 11 months.

A coalition government was formed in the Netherlands in July 2024. Wilders themselves were not in any position in the government. He said that the coalition fellow parties were not making a strict policy regarding the refugee crisis. Because of this, he has decided to get out of the alliance.

This decision has taken place at a time when the alliance was in a very weak condition already. The coalition government included 4 parties, now only 3 are left. That is, now the government has come under minority and the country has now been handed over to a caretaker administration. This will work until new elections are held.

PM Shuf criticized for breaking the alliance

Last week, wilders introduced a 10 -point plan. This included strict measures such as completely shutting down the movement of refugees, sending Syrian refugees, protecting borders from the army and closing refugee centers. He warned that if it does not agree on it, he would leave the government.

Prime Minister Dick Shuf said that demolishing the alliance is an irresponsible and irresponsible step. He said that he too wanted to solve the refugee crisis but suddenly it is not right to get out of the government.

Dilan Yesilgose, leader of People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy, said that the decision of Wilders is extremely irresponsible. He said that the Prime Minister had appealed to all the leaders to act with restraint and wisely at a time when there is a possibility of war and economic crisis in Europe, but a few minutes after the meeting, the wilders left the alliance.

PVV largest party in Netherlands

  • Party for Freedom (PVV)- 37 seats
  • Gronlinks-Labber Party (GL-PVDA)-25 seats
  • People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD)- 24 seats
  • New Social Contract (NSC)- 20 seats
  • Democrats 66 (D66)- 9 seats
  • Farmer-Citizen Movement (BBB)- 7 seats
  • Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) -5 seats
  • Socialist Party (SP) – 5 seats
  • Other- 18 seats

Elections will be held again in a few months

It is now likely that within a few months, elections will be held in the country again. This will increase volatility in Europe’s fifth largest economy and may also delay decisions on NATO’s new defense targets. An important meeting of NATO leaders is scheduled to be held in The Hague at the end of this month, but by then only one caretaker government in the Netherlands will remain.

After the alliance breaks, other parties can see the option of running a minority government, but they have not said anything on it yet. Interestingly, the wilders won the most seats in the recent elections, but now many surveys show that their popularity has reduced after joining the government and now his party is likely to get only 20% of the votes.

The Netherlands had voting for a total of 150 seats in November 2023. In this, the party of Geert Wilders got the most seats. PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB formed the government. They had 88 seats in total, but the coalition government now has 51 seats when the PVV got out of the alliance.
