The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has demanded to extend the last date for filing income tax returns. It has demanded this from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The Chamber believes that the last date for income tax return and tax audit report of Financial Year 2024-25 should be increased. Chamber says that ITR filing utilities were released quite late this year. Taxpayers have not been able to get the benefit of the increased date due to the release of the ouster of late ITR form.
The government extended the first date from July 31 to September 15
The government has given amendment in some tax rules including capital gains this year Income tax return The last date for filing was extended to 15 September. Generally, the last date for filing income tax returns is 31 July. The government has released Excel Utilities of ITR-5 and ITR-6 quite late. Due to this, taxpayers using these ITR forms have not got enough time to file returns.
Excel utilities trouble due to late release
Representatives of GCCI have told CBDT about their problems in this regard. He believes that we request the government to extend the last date for filing returns in view of the problem of taxpayers and chartered accountants in filing returns. Tax experts also say that the government has released the utilities of some ITR forms quite late. Especially ITR-5 and ITR-6 Excel Utilities have been released quite late. They are usually released in April. Excel utilities of ITR form are necessary to file income tax returns.
Technical problems are coming in e-filing portal
The Chamber says that technical problems are also coming in filing returns on the e-filing portal. The system gets slow in high traffic periods. This takes longer to file returns. Earr also comes many times. However, the government has not said anything about this yet. Experts say that if the government decides to extend the last date, it will be announced at the last minute.
