After taking citizenship of Vanuatu, Lalit Modi applied to surrender the Indian passport. The Ministry of External Affairs had said on 7 March that Lalit had submitted a passport at the Indian High Commission in London.

Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that “Lalit Modi has obtained citizenship of Vanuatu. We will continue to take forward the case against them according to the law. “
