The citizenship of Vanuatu of the former chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the fugitive Lalit Modi will be canceled. Vanuatu’s Prime Minister Jitoth Napat has ordered the Civilization Commission to cancel the passport issued to Lalit Modi.
According to the report of Vanuatu Daily Post, this decision has been taken on the basis of the report that Lalil Modi is trying to avoid extradition in India. Many reports were published in the international media about this.
The statement of the Prime Minister’s Office said that Interpol had twice refused to issue an alert against Lalit Modi. Due to this, his passport application was not rejected. According to the office, he was not found guilty in any crime during his background investigation.

Applied to surrender India’s passport
After taking citizenship of Vanuatu, Lalit Modi applied to surrender the Indian passport. The Ministry of External Affairs had said on 7 March that Lalit had submitted a passport at the Indian High Commission in London.
Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that “Lalit Modi has obtained citizenship of Vanuatu. We will continue to take forward the case against them according to the law. “
Posting X on 8 March, Lalit Modi wrote that,
No case against me is pending in any court of India. This is just the imagination of the media. It has been fifteen years, but they still say that they are behind me.
Why did Lalit Modi run away from India?
Lalit Modi was the president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association from 2005 to 2009. In 2008, he started the IPL. BCCI made him the chairman and commissioner of the IPL.
In 2010, Lalit was accused of corruption in the IPL. Lalit had given a contract of 425 crore IPL to Mauritius company World Sports. Modi was accused of commission of Rs 125 crore. It was also said that he adopted the wrong ways during the auction of two new teams.
