The government has taken a decision that will benefit the common man. If a person is injured in a road accident, then he will have a free treatment. For this, the government has started the Cashless Hospital Treatment Scheme. Under this scheme, the person injured in the accident will get treatment facility across the country. Under Cashless Hospital Treatment, treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh in the accident will be free.
This facility has come into effect from May 5. It is named Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025. Under this scheme, no payment will be made for treatment. A person will be treated under this scheme for seven days from the date of accident. The special thing is that treatment can be done in a hospital. It is estimated that this scheme will help save millions of lives annually. Many people suffer from accidents due to lack of timely treatment.
A notification has been issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway. It said, “Under this scheme, if a person is injured on a road with the use of motor vehicle under this scheme, then he will be entitled to cashless treatment.” The guidelines of this scheme states that if the victim of the accident is admitted to the non-propelled hospital, then he will get only initial stabilization treatment under the scheme.
The government has assured that the treatment of the victim of the accident can start within 24 hours of informing the police. The aim of this scheme is that there is no delay in treatment in such cases. In such a case, the approval of the claim for treatment will also be found soon. Every year millions of people in the country are victims of road accidents. There are many people who do not have enough money for treatment. Now such people will not face any kind of problem.
In this scheme of the government, a nodal agency will process all claims. It will register hospitals in association with the National Health Authority. This road will also monitor the treatment of the victim of the accident. This will also ensure that the treatment of the treatment hospital is made on time. Treatment will be under fixed treatment package. The scheme emphasizes that the treatment of the injured should start as soon as possible.
In January this year, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed concern over the increasing number of people injured in road accidents. He had said that 1.8 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents in 2024. 30,000 people lost their lives just because they did not put helmets. 66 percent of the people who lose their lives in road accidents are between 18 and 34 years.
