The Dalai Lama said that remaining active during such a long life is an example for all of us of how we should live our lives in service of others. In 2002, the Nobel Committee recognized his contribution to the welfare of humanity by awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize. Additionally, the Tibetan people and the Dalai Lama will always be grateful to President Carter for his keen interest and concern for the situation in Tibet and for taking initiatives to alleviate the plight of our people.
