Supreme Court granted anticipatory bail to former trainee IAS Pooja Khedkar
The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to former trainee officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Pooja Khedkar. Khedkar is accused of cheating the Civil Services Examination and taking wrong benefits of reservation under other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability category. Judge B.V. A bench of Nagratna and Judge Satish Chandra Sharma directed Khedkar to cooperate in the investigation. “Keeping in mind the facts and circumstances of the case, this is a suitable case where the Delhi High Court should bail the petitioner,” the bench said.
The bench said, “Which serious crime they have committed? That drug mafia or terrorist. They have not committed 302 (murder). He is not a criminal (law related to drug prohibition). You should have a system or software. You have completed the investigation. They have lost everything and they will not get a job anywhere.”
Delhi Police lawyer protested
The Delhi Police counsel strongly opposed the granting anticipatory bail to Khedkar, saying that she was not cooperating in the investigation and the allegations against him were serious. Khedkar is accused of giving incorrect information in his application for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination in 2022 to get the benefit of reservation. He has denied all the allegations against him.
UPSC took several action against Khedkar, including registering a criminal case to appear in the Civil Services Examination through fake identity. Delhi Police has also registered an FIR for various crimes against him. (Input-PTI)
