Foreign Minister Jaishankar will be on a visit to America on January 20. He will attend the swearing-in of newly elected US President Donald Trump here. The swearing-in organizing committee has sent an invitation to India for this. The Ministry of External Affairs posted this information on X.
During this time, Jaishankar will also meet the ministers joining the Trump administration and leaders from other countries. Donald Trump is going to be sworn in as the 47th President of America on January 20.
He has won the presidential election by defeating Kamala Harris. Donald Trump won 312 electoral votes in the election, while Kamala Harris got only 226 votes.
To win the election, a candidate needs 270 electoral votes.
Trump’s victory sealed
Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election has been sealed. On January 6, the Electoral College votes for the presidential election were counted in the US Parliament. After the count, Vice President Kamala Harris officially declared Trump’s victory.
Earlier, voting for the US Presidential elections took place on November 5. The election results became clear within the next 24 hours. However, 2 months after the election, Kamala Harris has confirmed Trump’s victory.
Fencing was erected around Capitol Hill and heavy security arrangements were made for the joint session of the US Parliament and Trump’s swearing-in ceremony later this month.
Trump will take the oath of office on January 20, 13 days after the official announcement of victory.
First American President to be punished
Donald Trump has become the first president in American history to be convicted. On December 10, he was sentenced on 34 charges related to the case of paying to silence a porn star. At present, the Manhattan Court of New York has unconditionally acquitted Trump without sending him to jail.
Trump appeared in court through video conferencing. Four big screens were installed in the courtroom, Trump was seen on these during the sentencing. Delivering the verdict, Justice Juan Marchen said, ‘I wish you success in your second term.’
This punishment given to Trump is only symbolic. This means that they will neither be jailed nor will they have to pay any fine. However, he will take oath as the US President as a convicted criminal.
