Lieutenant General Sadhna S Nair and her son Tarun Nair
Republic Day 2025 has become very special for Lieutenant General Sadhna S Nair and her son Tarun Nair. President Draupadi Murmu will honor both the soldiers on the occasion of 26 January. Sadhna and Tarun are the first mother-son pair in the history of India to receive the President’s honor together, at the same ceremony. Lieutenant General Sadhna S Nair, VSM will be awarded the AVSM. At the same time, his son Squadron Leader Tarun Nair will be awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
Who is General Sadhana?
Lieutenant General Sadhna Nair started her schooling from St. Mary’s Convent, Prayagraj and completed her schooling at Loreto Convent, Lucknow. Meanwhile, she went to schools in Tezpur, Gorakhpur, Kanpur and Chandigarh. She graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune with a good academic record and was commissioned into the Army Medical Corps in December 1985. Sadhna Nair has a postgraduate degree in Family Medicine. He has also completed a two-year training program in Medical Informatics at AIIMS, New Delhi.
Also honored with Vishisht Seva Medal
Lieutenant General Sadhna underwent training abroad in CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) warfare and military medical ethics. She was the first and only woman Principal Medical Officer of the Western Air Command and Training Command. Sadhna has also been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal. He has also received appreciation from the Chief of the Air Staff and the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief.
Took over the post of Medical Director General last year
Lieutenant General Sadhna had taken over as Director General of Medical Services (Army) in August last year. She is the first woman to be appointed to this prestigious post. Earlier he had held the post of Director General of Hospital Services (Armed Forces) after promotion to the rank of Air Marshal. She was the first woman to reach this position. Sadhna Nair is effectively only the second woman officer to rise to the rank of Air Marshal and now Director General Medical Services (Army), after serving in various capacities in the Air Force throughout her career.
