Regarding the virus, the Union Health Minister had said that our experts have said that this is not a new virus. This virus was first identified in 2001. After this it spreads in the world, it spreads through breathing, spreads through air and it affects people of all age groups. WHO is keeping an eye on the situation, the report will be shared with us soon. People have many questions about this virus such as how does it spread and for how many hours can its virus remain alive?

For how many hours can the HMPV virus remain alive?

Dr. Gopi Chand Khilnani, Chairman of PSRI Institute of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, gave information about this virus. He said, “The virus usually spreads through breathing or coughing. Also, it can survive for up to 6 hours at room temperature and if the temperature is as low as 4 degrees, it will survive for a longer period. It can also be transmitted through fomites.” Things that can get infected are things like a table or a chair or a book or a door handle if a susceptible patient touches it and another person gets it or by coming in close proximity, such as elderly people and those with diabetes. Those who have asthma or COPD or any chronic lung disease or heart disease, or who are undergoing treatment for any kind of cancer, or who have ever received chemotherapy, should avoid going to crowded places. Extra caution should be taken.

‘There is nothing to worry about’

He further said, “People who have viral illnesses like cough, cold, sore throat or runny nose should wear masks. There is no need to panic. This is not the same situation as we saw during the Covid-19 pandemic, Where people were collecting oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators, it is always helpful to be alert. We have nothing to lose by being alert. The Health Ministry will take adequate steps to find out about this. “

What are the symptoms of this disease?

If a person is infected with this virus, he will have cough, runny nose, sore throat and wheezing for 3-5 days. Along with this, high fever will also keep coming. In such a situation, people suffering from pneumonia and bronchitis and weak immunity should be careful. Because till now no solid treatment has been found for this virus, such as vaccine or any medicine.

What is its protection?

You must have heard that prevention is better than cure, so prevention from this virus is still an effective solution. Always keep your hands clean, wear a mask when you go out and maintain social distancing from people.
