Finance Minister Sitharaman made a big attack on CM.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the DMK government has allegedly removed the Tamil Nadu budget 2025-26 which will be presented tomorrow, the official rupee symbol ‘₹’ has been removed from the documents. If the DMK has a problem with ‘₹’, why did he not oppose it in 2010. Because then this symbol was adopted under the Congress -led UPA government, when the DMK was part of the ruling coalition at the center?
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the irony is that ‘₹’ was on ‘₹’ former DMK MLA N.K. Dharmalingam’s son T.D. Uday Kumar was designed. Now by erasing it, DMK is not only rejecting a national symbol, but is also completely disregarding the creative contribution of a Tamil youth.
Apart from this, the Finance Minister also stated that the roots of the Tamil word ‘Rupai’ (ரூபாய்) are deep in the Sanskrit word ‘Rupaya’, which means ‘coined silver’ or ‘working silver coin’. The word has been echoing in Tamil trade and literature for centuries and even today ‘Rupai’ remains the name of Mudra in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. In fact, many countries including Indonesia, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, Seychelles and Sri Lanka officially use ‘Rupee’ or its equivalent as their currency name.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the rupee symbol ‘₹’ is well known internationally. Global serves as an identity of India in financial transactions. At a time when India is emphasizing cross -border payments using UPI, should we really underestimate our own national currency symbol?
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman warned that all elected representatives and officials take an oath to maintain the sovereignty and integrity of our nation under the Constitution. The removal of a national symbol like ‘₹’ from the state budget documents is against the same oath that weakens the commitment to national unity. This is more than the symbolism – it indicates a dangerous mindset that weakens Indian unity and promotes separatist feelings on the pretext of regional pride.
