Fiji’s Prime Minister Rabuka had given the country’s highest honor to PM Modi in May 2023.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first time that a world leader has called Prime Minister Modi boss. Earlier, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had called him ‘Boss’. In the year 2023, Albanese was surprised to see Modi’s popularity among expatriate Indians in Australia. He compared Modi with famous rock star Bruce Springsteen.

Rabuka had apologized to the people of Indian origin Two years ago Rabuka had apologized to the people of Indian origin in Fiji. In fact, in the year 1987, Sitiveni Rabuka had staged a coup in the country and toppled the pro-India government. During this time Rabuka was a lieutenant colonel. Rabuka stormed the Fiji Parliament with 10 of his masked soldiers and arrested Prime Minister Timosi Bavadra.

Rabuka packed PM Timosi and 27 senior government leaders in a truck and took them to an unknown place. He himself became the Chief of the Caretaker Government and announced the suspension of Fiji’s Constitution.

Rabuka had then argued that the population of people of Indian origin had exceeded that of the original inhabitants of Fiji. Therefore, this coup was necessary for the people of Fiji to gain control over their country.

After this incident, attacks on Indian people started in Fiji. Shops of people of Indian origin started being damaged. Rabuka’s move was condemned worldwide. India also imposed trade sanctions on Fiji. Many countries refused to recognize him. Rabuka resigned after intense international pressure.
