Nowadays, children in private hospitals are being born mostly from C-section. Earlier in 2016, about 43 out of every 100 children were born from the operation, now by 2021, this figure has increased to about 50. That is, one of every two children is now being born from the operation.
Changes are also seen in claims of insurance companies
According to Digit Insurance official Pankaj Shane, 6-7 out of 10 maternity claims are associated with the operation today. The cost of C-section delivery is doubled compared to normal delivery. If there is a coverage of Rs 50,000 for normal delivery and Rs 1 lakh for C-section. Obviously, most people will claim the operation.
C-section cost up to Rs 3 lakh in cities
Operation in Tier-1 cities can reach the delivery cost from 50,000 to 3 lakh rupees. In view of this, insurance companies are also changing their health policy.
New benefits are available in maternity coverage
Now many insurance companies are offering maternity coverage of up to Rs 2 lakh. This includes pre -delivery care, newborn’s expenses and even infertility treatment. The waiting period has also been reduced in some policy – where you had to wait for 2 to 4 years, now some plans have started benefiting in just 3 months.
Facility to make maternity fund gradually
The ‘Early Start Plan’ of Digit Insurance works on this model, where starts at Rs 15,000 in the 9th month and increases by Rs 10,000 every year, until the fund reaches Rs 1 lakh.
What are the expenses covered?
Most of the health insurance plans now cover normal delivery, delivery, medical problems after delivery and newborn care for 90 days. Some plans also bear the cost of infertility treatment. However, stem cell storage, routine OPD visit and third child’s expenses still remain out of the policy.
Big companies are doing equal coverage
Many big corporates are now giving equal coverage for both normal and C-section delivery. This is helping to discourage unnecessary operation.
