The film proved to be a disaster at the box office. After the failure of ‘Thugs of Hindostan’, Aamir Khan publicly apologized and took responsibility for the film’s poor performance. In an interview to Hindustan Times, Aamir Khan said, ‘I have always felt responsible for my work, but in the last 18-19 years, no film of mine did well, so people felt that I was doing this for the first time and especially because it was one of the most expensive film. People had high expectations from this, so I was very sad. I felt emotionally felt that I should talk on it and apologize to people not to live up to expectations.
