Ahmedabad: Earthquake tremors were once again felt in Kutch district of Gujarat. An earthquake of 3.2 magnitude occurred on Wednesday morning. Institute of Earthquake Research (ISR) gave this information. The district administration said there was no news of any casualty or damage to property due to the earthquake.
Earthquake occurred at 10.24 am
According to the Gandhinagar-based ISR, the quake was recorded at 10.24 am, with its epicenter located 23 km north-northeast of Bhachau. Last month, four seismic activities of greater than magnitude 3 were recorded in the region, including a 3.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred three days ago, whose epicenter was also near Bhachau.
Gujarat is very sensitive to earthquake
According to the ISR, an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude had hit the district on December 23 and an earthquake of 3.2 magnitude on December 7. Last year, on November 18, an earthquake of magnitude four occurred in Kutch. According to ISR data, earlier on November 15, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 had occurred in Patan, North Gujarat. Gujarat falls in a high risk sensitive area in terms of earthquakes.
There was a devastating earthquake in 2001
According to Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) data, nine major earthquakes occurred in Gujarat in the last 200 years. According to GSDMA, the Kutch earthquake on 26 January 2001 was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake to hit India in the last two centuries. Many towns and villages in the district were almost completely destroyed in the earthquake, which killed about 13,800 people and injured 1.67 lakh others. (Language)
